Hippie Digest: Storm Thorgerson, RIP – Berkeley Hippies Attack… – Laos Hippies during Vietnam – ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ – Ours
Legendary album art designer Storm Thorgerson, RIP
Storm Thorgerson, whose album cover artwork includes Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, has died aged 69, the band’s management has confirmed.
A childhood friend of the founding members of the band, he became their designer-in-chief, fashioning a string of eye-catching creations.
Most-famously he designed the prism spreading a spectrum of colour across The Dark Side Of The Moon.
His credits also include albums by Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel and Muse.
His family released a statement saying he died peacefully on Thursday surrounded by family and friends.
“He had been ill for some time with cancer though he had made a remarkable recovery from his stroke in 2003,” it said.
“He is survived by his mother Vanji, his son Bill, his wife Barbie Antonis and her two children Adam and Georgia.” More…
Video: Homeless Berkeley Hippies Attack Stanley Roberts
A pair of dreadlock-sporting vagrants in Berkeley attacked noted KRON 4 reporter (and SFist favorite) Stanley Roberts this week while he was doing a segment outside Amoeba Music on Telegraph Avenue.
The journalist, best know for his “People Behaving Badly” news segments, was preparing a report on problematic panhandlers. He soon found himself on the receiving end of some bad behavior by said mendicants. More…

Judge Orders 2 teens to stay off social media and put on house arrest following threats to Steubenville rape victim
Following the Steubenville rape trial, threats to the victim as well as public slandering swirled all over the twitterverse.
1 teen identified as a underage cousin of Ma'lik Richmond who was sentenced to 1 year after being found delinquent in the rape of Jane Doe posted a poem on murdering the victim if she saw her again.
Another teen posted she would celebrate the verdict "by beating the shit out of Jane Doe." both teens were promptly arrested the day after the trial and were held in a juvenile detention facility until today's hearing.
Judge Kerr ruled that the teens would be placed on house arrest and would be blocked from using social media and the internet until further notice as well as, staying away from the victim of the Steubenville trial.
Defense lawyers argued that someof the twitter posts may have originated in West Virginia, and that Ohio has no jurisdiction with charges. Judge Kerr released the teens phones to the defense to have the trasnmissions of the tweets and where they originated from analyzed.

Breaking: New information in Steubenville Case
Late last night, sources have confirmed to me that a second Steubenville Video besides Nodianos' existed at one point on youtube and may infact exist offline. Prosecutors have been unable to retrieve deleted photos, videos, and text messages from over 15 confiscated phones during the Steubenville Police Department investigation which led to charging Trent Mays and Ma'lik Richmond with the alleged rape of 16 year old Jane Doe in August of 2012.
This second video allegedly depicts Jane Doe passed out Naked with Semen on her chest, as people wonder aloud if she is breathing, kick her to see if she will wake up and urinate on her.
Investigators and Prosecutors have been unable to find this video, but simple research and warrants to youtube would reveal that this video was posted to youtube on or around August 12, 2013, and removed days later.
Sources have also confirmed that initially Jane Doe had implicated the prosecutor's son as one of the assailants. Local Prosecutor Jane Hanlin recused herself from the case 2 weeks after the investigation and initial charges were filed prompting the Ohio Attorney General's office to assign a special prosecutor.
The local judge also recused himself from the case due to ties to the Big Red Football team. Attorney General Mike Dewine has stated more individuals may be charged following the end of this week's trial of Mays an Richmond, but it is unclear as to who will be charged and what the charges will be.

Fear and Loathing in Steubenville, Ohio
It's been a break between protests in the Steubenville area, and not much new information or sources have presented themselves in my own investigative reporting on the rape case. The recent death threats against me have also subsided, but the next protest is slated for February 2nd, and I sent the courts a written deposition on the motion to exclude media on behalf of independent media caovering this case.
I've met some wonderful people in Steubenville covering this case, and it has been always a interesting and fun time when we hit the bars of Steubenville after the days events.
I've also met a wonderful woman in the course of all the inherent fucked upness that is surrounding this rape case. She's adorable, and I really enjoy her company. She makes me happy, and pushes me to do things i'm otherwise too lazy/afraid to do like dancing. I need someone like that in my life.
Aside from that one awesome thing that has come out of covering a very difficult case, alot of things going on now surrounding #oprollredroll/#occupysteubenville are making absolutely no sense whatsoever such as Lee Stranahan suddenly jumping into the case as a"unbiased journalist" reporting the truth, but seems to be getting perks from the town of Steubenville such as alleged airfare from his home in dallas to pittsburgh, and a ride from pittsburgh to Steubenville to coverthe motions hearings in the 2 Steubenville athletes involved in a incident with a 16 year old girl. Stranahan's own tweets claim to have had meetings with Steubenville to fight back against anon using social media sites, rides around town late at night to the Spot Bar etc. It's hard to say Stranahan is objective on this case considering these recent tweets as well as his overall demeanor regarding the details of this case.

Gary Indiana at the Enclave
New York, January 26, 2013--With his customary panache and searing wit, the incomparable Gary Indiana, bereft of spectacles and freshly returned from the leafy streets of Vedado, a neighborhood in one of my favorite island cities some 90 miles from the North American coast, sips from his cuba libre and reads Episode 3 from a new novel, "Diving for Teeth" that--quelle surprise--he is writing with British artist Tracey Emin, as part of the Enclave reading series. He also read an excerpt from a memoir , formerly titled "I Slept with the Dead" but at present renamed "And Now What?" not featured in this clip. The Enclave takes place monthly in the basement bar beneath the CakeShop, 152 Ludlow Street, LES. (Gary explains how the collaboration works). The other scheduled readers, also not on this clip, but maybe on clips shot by others, were, in order of appearance, Cat TYC: the elegant and eloquent Rebekah Rutkoff, who read an erudite, imaginative dialogue with Carolee Schneeman: Laurie Weeks with a hilarious excerpt from her book that segued fluently from spoken word to song; the book's published by the Feminist Press (title TK), and Bethany Ides. |
Steubenville High School Football Rape Controversy
August 11, 2012 was just another average night in the small town of Steubenville Ohio. The End of summer parties were in full swing as some graduates were preparing to ship off to college, and others were preparing for another year of school, and another year of Big Red Football.
All the attendees to these parties were underage , but somehow managed to arrive to party after party with Beer. Others had a stockpile of liquor. One of the parties was hosted at the home of a Steubenville volunteer football coach.
This wasn’t your typical End of summer party weekend though. It was a weekend that would forever cast Steubenville and the Big Red Football program into the eyes of the world.
“Huge Party…Banger.” High Scool football Player Trent Mays posted on His Twitter account in regards to one of the parties going on that fateful night. This would be one of the many social media postings from the big red football players detailing the events of what would soon become the plight of the town. There are countless other twitter postings from this eveneing available online, but too graphic to read on air or post for the purpose of this story.

Once Again, Hippies & Punks, Beatniks & Bums to the Rescue!
New York, November 2nd 2012--On Avenue C and Tenth Street in Loisaida, the power has just returned after four days of power outage following superstorm Sandy, which made landfall on the New Jersey shore on October 29. Compounded by a full moon and colliding with a low pressure system from the mid west, the storm sent a 14.5 foot surge up both the Hudson and East Rivers. According to Jerry the Pedler, featured in this video, immediately after the flood and power outage caused by the surge, resourceful squatters took their barbecue grills off the roof and emptied their refrigrerators of meat and other foodstuffs that might spoil and set up an open kitchen on the sidewalk. Other neighbors contributed and the ad hoc operation fed about 200 people everyday for four days. On Friday, the FEMA trucks finally showed up on Tenth Street between Ave C and D. However, in recognition of the local community effort, they passed on boxes of A Pack Emergency Rations, bottled water and soda to the street kitchen. Contributing the festivities on Friday evening were the Rude Mechanical Orchestra and two fire dancers.

Occupy Wall Street: One Year Later
From Sept 15-17th Occupy Wall Street gathered in lower Manhattan to commemorate one full year of actions. The three days where broken up into a day of education, a day of celebration, and a day of liberation.
Occupy Wall Street participants used the anniversary to show that they are still active, organizing actions everyday all across the city. This is a short documentary which highlights some of Occupy Wall Street's recent accomplishments, its broader influence, and where it is headed.
#S17 #OWS Birthday Party
One year ago a small group of predominantly Anarchists sparked a horizontally organized movement to level the playing field in the game of Corporations -vs- The People of the United States. Today we celebrated our success and contemplated our future. We licked old wounds and created new ones. We turned a critical eye to the process that has guided us and acknowledged it's short comings so that our second year of existence will be one of effectiveness even if it means dropping the verb. To Occupy.
