Titanium Sporkestra is a renegade marching band from Seattle. Featuring and founded by members of infamous Seattle marching band Infernal Noise Brigade and legendary Seattle band TchKunG!, Titanium Sporkestra delivers a bombastic blend of heavy world drumming as well as traditional drum line music, tweaked just a little bit and turned up to 11. “Titanium Sporkestra plays everything from Black Sabbath to old school Balkan beats and gypsy anthems. Add in a dash of military influence and an unprecedented amount of sexuality to the show, and the band spends more time in the crowd then on stage- dominating the entire crowd into musical submission. Band isn’t just for nerds anymore- it’s sexy, fun, and incredibly talented.” -Popwreckoning.com Website: http://titaniumsporkestra.com/ Filmed by Jeff Zavala on March 25, 2012. Mission/Value Statement • We welcome musicians from all backgrounds and all levels of ability to join us. • We play in support of select causes and events in an attempt to draw community attention to them. • We help each other to grow in musicianship. • We play free, guerrilla style and in the streets whenever possible and try to uplift everyone within earshot. • We believe that the power of music may be more effective and powerful than weapons, arguments or war. • We build community and share our love of music with each other and with our audiences. • We interrupt your regularly-scheduled life with spontaneous moments of raucous musical joy. • We encourage musical expression by playing with, and for, people of all levels of musical experience. • We contribute to making the experience of saving the world a bit more fun and weird. • We believe that any note is better than no note. • We celebrate the heritage and joy of marching/roving band shows and their rich, diverse history. • We hold each other to a standard of reliability regarding attendance at practices and shows. • We operate as a democracy, sharing responsibilities and decisions. • We value silliness, gratuitous antics and pure fun for its own sake as much as (if not more than) musical skill. Range of Music As the history and present state of brass, drum, marching, and roving bands shows, they are part of a rich and diverse history of styles, influences, cultures, and purposes. We hope to play songs that celebrate those histories, while having a great time playing together and with our audiences. The Young Fellaz Brass Band is a lively second line styled brass band from New Orleans, LA. It began in 2005 originally with humble beginnings, only having 3 members walking around their neighborhood playing their instruments out of the love of music. Over the course of the next 6 years, the band would flourish to 8 members, along with overcoming many obstacles and setting many milestones for such a young group of musicians, such as recording 3 studio albums, numerous festivals in New Orleans, along with performing in many states across the United States, including the HONK! TX festival. The band’s style of music covers many genres, including traditional jazz, hip-hop, R&B, rock and pop tunes. The Young Fellaz Brass Band is definitely gonna make you move your feet! Blowing horns and banging drums from beyond the grave, the Dead Music Capital Band made their debut October 2011 in Austin, TX as the house band for the KreweDCM Halloween Parade. Proving that the party doesn’t have to end just because life does, DMCB takes their cadaverous cacophony to the streets whenever possible. From show tunes, originals, New Orleans-brass classics, heavy metal, movie themes, to Chopin and beyond–it’s all fed through the DMCB brass band organ grinder to produce an outrageously macabre musical party. Chicago performance art group Environmental Encroachment (EE) uses circus theatrics and an artist marching band to create unique entertainment environments. Performances can include costumes, live music, parades, acrobatics, fire spinning, spontaneous appearances, antics, and audience interaction. EE Marching Band’s music uses North African, Latin, and traditional American rhythms, fused with electric bass and a brass section. MINOR MISHAP MARCHING BAND is a 25 piece renegade circus brass band. They are an absurd expression of boisterous pandemonium– Bourbon street meets Budapest.http://minormishap.com/ Twenty of the most exciting, original, and talented community street bands from across North America will perform absolutely free in streets, parks, and neighborhoods throughout Austin for the inaugural HONK!TX festival, from March 11th to 13th, 2011. Inspired by the success of the original HONK! Festival in Somerville, Massachusetts and HONK! Fest West in Seattle, Washington, HONK!TX is a non-profit and grassroots gathering of street bands that defy simple categorization. Bands will play unamplified and without built stages, breaking down any barriers between the crowd and performers. The bands range in size from four to forty members, all diverse in age, ethnicity, and musical background. They represent various performance traditions, including New Orleans second line brass, European klezmer, Balkan and Romani music, and festivals such as Mardi Gras and Brazilian Carnaval. HONK!TX is made possible by the wholehearted support of neighborhood associations, local businesses, city officials, and other community members. Volunteers will provide housing, transportation, and their time at the festival. The festival has raised funds from over 230 individual donations through a kickstarter.com campaign. Wheatsville Food Co-op, Whole Foods Market, and SXSW are major sponsors along with fiscal and in-kind support from numerous other local businesses. The HONK!TX Organizing Committee is comprised of the Minor Mishap Marching Band, Austin's own community street band, and iLoveMikeLitt, a local arts and culture group. More information, including full band lineup, locations and hours, is available athttp://www.honktx.org/ Produced by Jeff Zavala. A ZGraphix production.http://zgraphix.org/
