| New York, August 11, 2012-- At 7pm, the Saturday General Assembly begins with certain caveats. According to the rules promulgated by prior General Assemblies and spelled out by facilitator Shawn and Justin Stone-Diaz, in order to reach consensus on proposals, they must have been posted 24 hours in advance on the NYCGA.Net website. The rules are mostly acquiesced in but meet with resistance from some of the Occupiers present. What takes place in the video, therefore, is a "community discussion" and "proposal building". Nevertheless, a facilitation team is formed from volunteers; by definition participants may only volunteer themselves and not others. Among the proposals placed on the agenda are important ones, namely: the disposition of the Occupy archives, due to take place on August 12 (facilitator points out there is already a working group addressing this issue); the unfreezing of $32000 in the bank: there is currently a spending freeze; eliminating scheduling conflicts between direct actions and meetings, a point that according to Stone-Diaz has been debated since February. Video shows excerpts from Part 1 of the discussion, which was also live-streamed. Filmed by Liza Béar at Broadway and Liberty Street. | Views: 4 0 ratings |
