| New York, Dec 17--At the Occupy 2.0 launch in DuArte Square, an Occupus puppet with tentacles was created from blue DEP recycling bags to represent the reach of corporate influence and control over every aspect of society. Located at Canal Street and Sixth Avenue in lower Manhattan, DuArte Square is a public space adjacent to a private lot owned by Trinity Church; the lot, around which a high chain link fence has recently been erected, is currently leased to the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, which is not using it. With the backing of (Arch)bishop Desmond Tutu, many members of the New York clergy and thousands of supporters, OWS has petitioned Trinity for the temporary use of this lot as a forum for OWS dialogue and activities. So far Rev James Cooper claims that while Trinity has helped OWS in other ways, the OWS request is non-negotiable. See NYCGA.net for updates and daily schedule at other OWS locations. | Views: 8 0 ratings |
