As I am about to post this blog piece, I just got a call from a man named Garvard Good Plume at Pine Ridge telling me that Wounded Knee is being auctioned off RIGHT NOW.  I feel sick.  Meanwhile, here's what I wrote earlier today....

I am sitting in a cafe in Rapid City, South Dakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation, early for my interview with Charmaine White Face.  I watched the riveting, heartbreaking and informative film "Red Cry" for the second time last night to prepare for this interview.  I also studied the very specific and helpful directives about how non-indigenous people can support indigenous people at www.lakotagrandmothers.org.

At the Intersection of Main & Church Street in Thurmont, Maryland, a few hundred Ethiopians gathered from around the country and the world. Six miles from the GB summit at Camp David, the entrance to the heart of the downtown area was blocked from vehicle entry by local police. The intersection where protestors had gathered was controlled by various police officers and a couple of dozen riot police in full gear. The protest rally was being attended by a few dozen other people who lined the sidewalks, some were gathered to observe the protestors, others were there as protestors and occupiers from the region, carrying signs for their own political causes and standing in solidarity. 

Ethiopians organized collectively to protest Prime Minister Zenawi's attendance at the G8 summit. Zenawi has ruled in Ethiopia since 1991, and is on lists at Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and Genocide Watch, for possible crimes against humanity and human rights abuses.

About 500 Ethiopian Americans came to Camp David (Thurmont, MD) to show their opposition to their country's dictator who was at the Summit to Shmooze money from Obama.  2 billion US Tax Dollars go to the Ethiopian dictator Meles Zenawi who uses the money to ethnically cleanse a part of Ethiopia that was formerly Somalia.

Gulf Coast Restoration Task Force Concentrate - NOLA
On February 28th the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force held public meeting for about 12 hours. The initial hours were all about government presentations about various aspects of the ecosystem and constant reminders that this process was and will be a bottom up process with the people who are affected and the people who are doing the work steering the cart of recovery. Most of the people speaking here are representing one of the multitude of non profit organizations that are and have been working on gulf coast restoration for years. Israeli activist Gal Lugassi spoke at Monkeywrench Books (110 E North Loop Blvd). Gal Lugassi is an Israeli conscientious objector, a member of the Shiministim, an activist with the Anarchist Against the Wall action group, and the Boycott! from Within group. She also volunteers at the Coalition of Women for Peace and with the Who Profits project. Anarchists Against the Wall (AATW) is a direct action group that was established in 2003 in response to the construction of the wall Israel is building on Palestinian land in the Occupied West Bank. The group works in cooperation with Palestinians in a joint popular struggle against the occupation. Since its formation, the group has participated in hundreds of demonstrations and direct actions against the wall specifically, and the occupation generally, all over the West Bank. All of AATW's work in Palestine is coordinated through villages' local popular committees and is essentially Palestinian led.
